Off Grid Coffee

Elsa Rhae4 Comments

I live off grid in my 13ft Scamp trailer. Off grid means my camper is not connected to electricity or running water, so in order to have common luxuries like coffee, I have to get a little creative.

My ultimate, favorite off grid stove is my wood burning Biolite Stove. This stove is much better for the environment than stoves that require disposable gas canisters, but to get a pitcher of boiling water, it takes about 20 minutes of effort. I bit the bullet and bought an MSR Pocket Rocket 2 in order to save some time on early mornings and late nights.

I heat the water until just before boiling.

This silicone coffee pour-over device was given to me by a good friend for my birthday. It collapses down into itself for easy storing and can withstand the heat of the water sitting inside of it for minutes on end.

There you have it. A stove, hot water, coffee grounds, and some squishy, orange devices get you the same thing as an electric powered coffee maker. Give it a try and enjoy the most satisfying cup of coffee you've ever experienced.
